Mallorca by UTMB® concludes a high-level edition with victories for Jan Torrella and Núria Tarragó
Mallorca by UTMB® has wrapped up a successful edition. Over three days, the excitement of trail running was experienced across the Balearic island, which hosted one of the final major races of the year in the UTMB® World Series calendar.
In total, 2,300 runners from 70 nationalities took part across four distances: the SDT, 138 kilometers; the CPS, 104 kilometers; the ETM, 56 kilometers; and the CDA, 26 kilometers.
Mallorca takes the male and female podium in the CDA
At 9:00 a.m., from the charming town of Valldemossa, the final race of the event began, the CDA, a 26-kilometer course with 1,000 meters of positive elevation, finishing in Port de Sóller. A short but intense route along one of the most beautiful sections of the GR-221, offering a unique experience in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m., Catalan runner Jan Torrella crossed the finish line. “It was amazing. The route is very technical, but the landscapes, overlooking the sea, are incredible. I felt the support from the people the whole time. It was spectacular,” said the 21-year-old, who finished in 01:56:19.
Second place was fiercely contested and ultimately went to Álvaro García Bernabeu (02:05:11), who finished just eight seconds ahead of Damian Ramis Pons (02:05:19). “As a Mallorcan, it’s an honor that the UTMB® Group has brought a race of this caliber to the island,” said the runner from Llubí.
In the women’s category, Núria Tarragó was the fastest with a time of 02:26:54. She was followed by Hungarian Eszter Czillag (02:27:30), with Àngels Llobera completing the podium in 02:35:58. “This is a great victory for me because I usually compete in ultra-distance races, and especially because I achieved it in Mallorca. It’s very important for the island to host a competition of this level,” said the runner from Pollença.
Serra de Tramuntana: Stage of the great trail spectacle
On Saturday, the Serra de Tramuntana experienced its most intense day. The longest distances of the event took trail running to its maximum expression, combining difficulty, technicality, and dreamlike landscapes.
German runner Hannes Namberger and New Zealander Isla Smith, living in Mallorca, were crowned winners of the SDT, the 138-kilometer race, after a demanding course through the Serra de Tramuntana that tested participants’ endurance and technical skills.
In the other distances, Tobias Geiser and Sonja Kinna prevailed in the CPS (Camins de Pedra Seca), while Marcos Ramos and Isabell Speer won the ETM (Els Tres Mils).
The day brought together top-level athletes from numerous countries, who enjoyed the unique landscapes and the unparalleled atmosphere of Mallorca.
