Hannes Namberger and Isla Smith Conquer the SDT of Mallorca by UTMB®
SDT Already Has Its Champions. After covering the 138 kilometers from Cala Estellencs to Port de Sóller, Hannes Namberger achieved a historic victory by becoming the first runner to complete the SDT, the 100 Miles of Mallorca by UTMB®, following the cancellation of last year’s race due to the DANA storm.
“I knew it was going to be technical, but I didn’t expect it to be this much. I’m very happy. This is my first time at Mallorca by UTMB®, but it won’t be my last,” said the German, who finished in 13:37:31.
Following him, Théo Detienne came in second with a time of 13:57:13. “I had never participated in a race this tough and technical before,” admitted the Frenchman.
The third spot went to his friend Nicolas Gourdon, who completed the race in 14:38:23. “The landscapes are unique, with incredible contrasts,” praised the French runner.
In the women’s category, New Zealander Isla Smith, who has been living in Mallorca for four years, crossed the finish line shortly after 4:00 p.m., clocking 18:12:55. “I love running in Mallorca. I especially enjoyed running at night. I love this terrain and I’m very happy to be here in Port de Sóller,” said the runner.
Frenchwoman Julie Marini came in second at 19:13:34, and Charlotte Fisher completed the podium in 19:43:39.
Tobias Geiser and Sonja Kinna Win the CPS
At 6:00 a.m., the CPS, Camins de Pedra Seca, a 104 km race with 3,740 meters of positive elevation gain, started from Cala Estellencs.
The winner was Italian Tobias Geiser, who crossed the finish line in 09:37:31. The podium was completed by French runner Gautier Bonnecarrère (09:51:12) and Austrian Andreas Rieder (10:11:49).
In the women’s category, German engineer Sonja Kinna was the fastest, finishing in 11:24:43. She was followed by Spaniard Ana Cervan (12:18:22) and Briton Julie Davis (12:23:58).
Marcos Ramos and Isabell Speer Win the ETM
At 8:00 a.m., the ETM, Els Tres Mils, a 56 km race with 2,450 meters of positive elevation gain, started from the town of Selva. It brought together top trail runners such as Spaniards Mario Olmedo (UTMB® Index 882) and Marcos Ramos (UTMB® Index 866), Portuguese Bruno Silva (UTMB® Index 861), French runners Candice Fertin-Baccon (UTMB® Index 739) and Lucie Jasmin (UTMB® Index 717), Spaniard Isabel Calero (UTMB® Index 694), and Swedish runner Emelie Forsberg (UTMB® Index 724), returning to competition after recent maternity.
The level was high, but in the end, Marcos Ramos was the first to cross the finish line of this second edition of Mallorca by UTMB®, with a time of 05:04:55. “The race is spectacular. The course left me speechless. It’s very technical and tougher than I expected, but I really enjoyed it,” said the Aragonese runner. Frenchman Thomas Butez came in second at 05:14:51, and Granadian Mario Olmedo completed the podium in 05:17:05.
In the women’s category, Isabell Speer was the fastest, finishing in 06:02:57. “I love Mallorca. This race is incredible. I have no words,” said the Austrian. Candice Fertin-Baccon crossed the line second at 06:06:17. “Yesterday I was in Chamonix at one degree, and today it was very hot. It’s a very technical race,” noted the French runner.
Third place went to Emelie Forsberg, returning to racing after maternity. “It’s always very exciting to come to Mallorca. This race is amazing, and I hope to come back next year,” said the Norwegian-based Swede.
The Spirit of Trail Runs in Mallorca by UTMB®
At 7:00 p.m., the awards ceremony was held at the Moll Comercial in Port de Sóller, with a group of Iraqi and Afghan women in attendance, who will take part in the CDA, Camins de S’Arxiduc, the 26 km race of Mallorca by UTMB®, on Sunday.
Their participation is part of a project led by Free to Run and UTMB® Cares, aimed at supporting women from conflict-affected regions, where female rights and freedoms are particularly threatened. Thanks to this initiative, these runners were able to meet, train, and experience the unique opportunity of participating in a race of the international UTMB® World Series.
The Conseller of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, welcomed them and highlighted the importance of initiatives that give visibility to women in sport. He also emphasized the significance of this event for the island: “Mallorca by UTMB® consolidates our position as an international reference for outdoor sports and sustainable tourism. Events like this showcase Mallorca’s natural, cultural, and sporting wealth to the world. Our commitment is to continue supporting initiatives that combine sport, sustainability, and territorial promotion, as they offer a chance to show the best side of our island.”
The Trail Celebration Continues on Sunday
Tomorrow it’s the turn of the CDA, Camins de S’Arxiduc, which will start at 9:00 a.m. from the picturesque town of Valldemossa. Mallorca by UTMB® continues to bring together runners from all over the world to enjoy a unique setting where mountains and effort merge with the thrill of the world’s best trail running.
