The First Edition of Mallorca by UTMB® Kicks Off with 3,400 Registered Runners
Mallorca by UTMB® is officially underway. The trail running event was presented on Wednesday afternoon at the Town Hall of Pollença, attended by various officials including Jaume Bauzà, Pedro Mas, Miquel Nadal, Martí March, Toni Solivellas, and Xavier Pocino.
All present institutions emphasized the importance of hosting such an event for the island, which highlights heritage, responsibly showcases the territory, and promotes the grandeur of the Serra de Tramuntana abroad. They also agreed that this type of sustainable and environmentally respectful sports tourism benefits Mallorca at this time of year, once the summer season has ended, and highlighted the returns it generates for the island and its residents through the charitable projects undertaken by the organization.
The event, sponsored by Govern Balear and Fundació Mallorca Turisme, runs from October 30 to November 3, and is one of the last major events of the year, gathering some of the world’s best athletes.
With 3,400 registered runners, 54% of whom are foreign, and all spots sold out for months, Mallorca by UTMB® debuts as one of the most eagerly anticipated events in its first edition among fans of the sport.
Spain, France, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Italy, the USA, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Argentina are the countries with the highest number of participants, though there are runners from over 70 nationalities.
