Lambert Santelli and Maite Maiora triumph in the SDT at Mallorca by UTMB®

French runner Lambert Santelli wins the flagship 138-kilometre race in 14:38:02. Basque runner Maite Maiora takes the women’s title in 18:01:27. Marcel Fabian and Henriette Albon claim victory in the CPS, which started this morning at 6 a.m. from Cala Estellencs. In the ETM, Andorran runner Samuel Ponce and Norwegian runner Shangave Balendran take the honours.

Mallorca by UTMB® has its first major winners. The third edition of the event has seen an intense day of racing, with the finish-line arrivals of the winners of three of its four distances.

In the SDT, the 138-kilometre race that started last night from Cala Estellencs with 517 runners on the starting line, Lambert Santelli was the fastest to complete the course, reaching Port de Sóller in 14:38:02. Just a few seconds behind him, Samuel Ponce, winner of the ETM, crossed the finish line.

“It’s a very difficult race, very technical, but also very beautiful. I’ll be back to visit Mallorca,” said Santelli, in what was his final competition of the season.

For Samuel Ponce, who has only been involved in trail running for three years, “the race was very special and very technical, but I felt really good from the start. Crossing the finish line was incredible.”

The men’s SDT podium was an all-French affair, with Jeremy Lenormand finishing second in 15:20:41, and Gabriel Airiau taking third place in 15:32:12.

In the women’s race, Maite Maiora claimed victory in 18:01:27. The Basque runner, who had considered withdrawing from the competition due to injury, crossed the finish line visibly emotional. “I know age catches up with you, and the younger women are really strong… I’ve come back from a serious injury, but… here I am!” she said. Maiora, runner-up in the 100-mile race at Julian Alps by UTMB® last September, has added another victory to her record in the UTMB® World Series.

French runner Céline Finas finished second in the women’s classification, despite receiving a two-hour-and-45-minute penalty for taking a shortcut. She completed the race in 19:28:31. Third place went to Czech athlete Andrea Vlasakova, in 20:20:19.

Marcel Fabian and Henriette Albon take the CPS titles

Saturday’s racing got underway at 6 a.m. with the start of the CPS, Camins de Pedra en Sec, from Cala Estellencs. Its 104 kilometres and 3,740 metres of elevation gain tested the endurance of the 600 runners who set off to tackle a demanding course through the Serra de Tramuntana.

Marcel Fabian was the first to reach Port de Sóller, finishing in 9:33:46. “Remember my name, because I’m going to be the next trail-running star,” the Polish runner said with a laugh, delighted with the course.

Morten Antonsen took second place in 9:39:37. “Every part of my body was hurting, but I stayed focused on the race,” explained the Norwegian. Spain’s Urko Arizeta completed the podium in 10:06:17.

In the women’s race, Norway’s Henriette Albon claimed victory after completing the distance in 11:23:06. “It wasn’t easy. I had to fight for first place,” said the runner, who praised the beauty of the course and was visibly moved as she crossed the finish line. Italy’s Denise Zacco and Canada’s Karol-Ann Roy finished second and third, in 11:39:48 and 12:07:04, respectively.

Samuel Ponce and Candice Fertin-Baccon win the ETM

At 8 a.m., the ETM, Els Tres Mils, got underway from Plaça Major in Selva. The 56-kilometre race, with 2,450 metres of elevation gain, brought together 666 runners for a course combining physical and technical challenges in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana.

Andorran runner Samuel Ponce claimed the men’s victory in 4:53:19, ahead of Jonas Hesthaug (4:55:39) and Theo Bourgeois (5:00:46), who completed the podium.

In the women’s race, Norwegian runner Shangave Balendran, sixth in the ETM in 2024, took the win in 5:50:14. “It was a really tough day. At the beginning I felt awful, my legs weren’t working, but I gradually found my rhythm,” she explained.

The podium was completed by French runner Candice Fertin-Baccon (6:06:11) and Spain’s Gemma Arenas (6:08:00). Arenas was delighted with her third-place finish, especially considering the “two outstanding runners” who had crossed the finish line ahead of her.

Mallorca by UTMB® heads into its final day

The competition continues this Sunday, 1 November, with the CDA, Camins de s’Arxiduc, covering 26 kilometres and 1,000 metres of elevation gain. The race will start at 9 a.m. from Plaça de la Cartoixa in Valldemossa.

At the same time, Port de Sóller will host the Memorial Guiem Sec, a 7-kilometre charity race in memory of Guiem Coll Bestard, known as “Sec”. The event aims to support the fight against childhood cancer and raise awareness of the impact these diseases have on children and their families. The route will link Faro de sa Creu and Far des Cap Gros, with proceeds supporting the Unoentrecienmil Foundation.

With these two races, Mallorca by UTMB® will bring a weekend of trail running in the Serra de Tramuntana to a close. The event has brought together runners from around the world across four distances, all sharing the same goal: to enjoy the experience of trail running in a unique setting. This third edition once again highlights the international appeal of the event and strengthens its place on the calendar, with competition and camaraderie among runners at its heart.
