The third edition of Mallorca by UTMB® has begun
Mallorca by UTMB® is now underway. The third edition of the event got started yesterday at 3 p.m. with the opening of race bib collection and the Ultra-Trail® Village, which has a new format this year, with stands set up along Moll Pesquer in Port de Sóller, bringing the event’s activities to this iconic part of the town.
The event brings together 2,400 runners from 64 countries, ready to take on one of the four distances across some of the most representative landscapes of the Serra de Tramuntana. Over the coming days, the competition will combine high-level trail running, natural and cultural heritage, and a commitment to the local area and community.
Port de Sóller welcomes the leading names of Mallorca by UTMB®
This morning at 11:30 a.m., the Ultra-Trail® Village in Port de Sóller hosted the presentation of the elite athletes taking part in Mallorca by UTMB®, with several of the favourites for this third edition in attendance. Mallorcan runner Tofol Castanyer, one of the great legends of the trail running world, welcomed everyone attending. Among them was Italian runner Tobias Geiser (UTMB® Index 913), winner of the CPS in 2025, who will take on the flagship SDT this year. “I’m really happy to be here. I won the CPS last year and this time I’ve moved up in distance. The weather forecast looks good, so I’m sure it’s going to be a great race. The important thing is to enjoy the journey and have a good time,” he said.
Andorran runner Samuel Ponce (895) is among the contenders for victory in the ETM. He highlighted the promising weather forecast and his excitement at discovering a course he has heard great things about: “I’m really looking forward to enjoying this race. I’ve heard so many good things about it.”
Other notable athletes attending the presentation included French runner Damien Humbert (910), Norwegian Henriette Albon (773), Polish runner Marcel Fabian (888), French runner Candice Fertin-Baccon (765), Swiss runner Martin Anthamatten (901), German runner Miria Menheit (727), Spanish runner Biel Sagués (850), and Swedish athlete Anna Haag, an Olympic cross-country skiing champion.
The presentation was also attended by Mallorcan Pedro Lliteras, an athlete with a visual impairment who will line up for the CDA on Sunday.
The SDT kicks off a weekend of trail running in the Serra de Tramuntana
The competition gets underway tonight at 10 p.m. with the start of the SDT, Serra de Tramuntana, the flagship race of the event, covering 138 kilometres and 5,350 metres of elevation gain. Starting in Cala Estellencs, runners will face a demanding course along some of the most emblematic trails and landmarks of the Serra de Tramuntana before reaching Port de Sóller.
Saturday 31 October will see the start of the CPS, Camins de Pedra Seca (104 km and 3,740 m+), which will also set off from Cala Estellencs at 6 a.m., and the ETM, Els Tres Mils (56 km and 2,450 m+), starting at 8 a.m. from Plaça Major in Selva.
On Sunday 1 November, the CDA, Camins de s’Arxiduc (26 km and 1,000 m+) will start at 9 a.m. from Plaça de la Cartoixa in Valldemossa.
Sunday’s programme will also include the Memorial Guiem Sec, a 7-kilometre charity race in memory of Guiem Coll Bestard, known as “Sec”. The event aims to support the fight against childhood cancer and raise awareness of the impact these diseases have on children and their families. Starting at 9 a.m. from Port de Sóller, the route will link Faro de Sa Creu with Far des Cap Gros as part of a charitable initiative in collaboration with the Unoentrecienmil Foundation.
The challenge of running in a unique setting
The Serra de Tramuntana once again takes centre stage as an international trail running destination, with historic paths, mountain peaks and villages forming some of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive routes. This landscape is an integral part of Mallorca’s identity, and preserving it is also central to the event’s commitment to the local area.
Over the coming days, runners from around the world will test their endurance and determination along trails that bring together sport, nature and heritage. It is an opportunity to discover the island from a different perspective and experience the unique character of an environment that makes Mallorca a special destination for trail running.
